Our practice is proud to offer 3D and 4D ultrasound. This amazing new technology allows you to see your baby in 3D in real time during your pre-natal ultrasound visit at Dr. Plavnik’s Office. We even provide you with glossy pictures of your 3D ultrasound as part of your visit. Please contact our office at 847.626.7600 to make an appointment. Some Frequently Asked Questions about 3D and 4D Ultrasound Can I schedule more visits than is covered by insurance? Absolutely, you will probably want to get more pictures of your baby’s life in the womb. Call our office to schedule an appointment and to find out about pricing. What is the difference between a 2D, 3D and 4D ultrasound? A 2D ultrasound is a standard ultrasound in black and white. A 4D ultrasound is a color ultrasound in three dimensions showing your baby’s features and movement. A 3D ultrasound is a still image of a 4D ultrasound. Are 3D and 4D fetal ultrasound services safe? 3D and 4D ultrasound uses the same technology as regular ultrasound so there is no increased risk. Ultrasound has been around for 35 years and there has never been any serious outcome from its use. Dr. Plavnik’s office uses the state of the art 3D and 4D ultrasound equipment- the GE Voluson 730. This will enable us to provide clear images of your baby. Click here for the GE Website to see how the technology works and try the virtual scan. When is the best time for a 4D Ultrasound? The answer to this depends on what you want to see. Many expecting mothers come in twice – earlier on for gender (between 16-25 weeks), and later (between 25-33 weeks) for more detailed facial features. Between 12 to 25 weeks, the baby is less developed, but has more room to move. You can also see more of the baby on the screen at one time. We can determine the gender beginning at week 16. Between 26 and 33 weeks, your baby is developing fat and the facial features become more clear. Please be aware when the baby is older than 33 weeks, 3D/4D imaging sometimes becomes more difficult. During this later developmental stage, if the baby is positioned poorly for imaging, there is less room for the baby to move out of that position and face outward. However, every baby is different and we have obtained great images all the way up to full term. Please feel free to call us and we can tell you at what stage your baby is in and you can tell us what you want to see. When is the best time for a Gender verification ultrasound? Any time between 16-34 weeks, however as all cases are different . Who will perform my scan? Dr. Plavnik and her highly experienced staff Regis ted Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. She will be happy to answer any and all of your questions. What if you can’t see my baby? If your baby is uncooperative you get to come back for FREE. Sometimes babies are in the fetal position and cover their face. Sometimes babies are in the spine up position. Do I need to do anything special to prepare myself for a 3D or 4D ultrasound? We have found that fetuses are more active in mothers who eat a meal or snack before they come in. When a mother has a lot of amniotic fluid the facial features are much clearer. A way to increase the amniotic fluid is to drink plenty of water throughout the pregnancy. A full bladder is NOT necessary. Is 3D/4D ultrasound covered by insurance? The “4-D” ultrasound is performed in conjunction with a “complete” OB ultrasound so their are NO extra charges. Insurance will usually cover the cost of the ultrasound if the patient”s insurance will reimburse for an ultrasound at FemaCare OB/GYN. |
